Home of Krugerrands in Sandton
Sandton City, right in the centre of South Africa’s economic and financial hub, has proved itself to be the ideal location for our business premises. It is where we serve our esteemed clients who come to buy or sell this country’s premier commodity – gold – in the form of universally popular and globally traded Krugerrands.
In fact, there are more Krugerrands in circulation throughout the entire world than any other type of gold coinage, a remarkable achievement for an investment and collector’s product which was only launched as relatively recently as 1967. In turn, Sandton City’s Office Towers provides prestigious business accommodation, ample, secure parking and is moreover close to the Gautrain rapid rail flagship station, very convenient for those who prefer not to contend with road traffic.
Proclamation of Sandton
Sandton was only proclaimed as a municipality in 1969, at which time two Johannesburg suburbs, Sandhurst and Bryanston, were to fall under this new municipal authority, which took its name from a combination of the suburbs’ names.
The creation of Sandton as an alternative business centre to the north of Johannesburg was deemed necessary to relieve pressure on Johannesburg’s busy central business district, its heavy traffic and congested roads, and insufficient parking facilities to cater for demands. Increasing development and growth spread northwards towards Sandton and urban decay began to set in within the CBD.
Initially, the area in which the shopping mall and office towers are now situated consisted of residential dwellings on large semi-rural stands and smallholdings – very much a country lifestyle area, popular amongst the horse riding community.
Since the latter 1990s, Sandton was no longer a separate municipal district, instead forming a sector of the City of Johannesburg’s Metropolitan Municipality. It is one of South Africa’s most affluent suburbs, boasting a shopping mall of some 215 000 square metres in size, luxurious 5-star hotels of world-class standards and premier office space, a far cry from the initial shopping mall which first opened its somewhat more modest doors in 1973.
A Very Long Time Ago
Much longer ago, before Europeans set foot here, archaeological evidence indicates that the Sandton area was occupied by indigenous African tribes. Later, a Voortrekker family named Esterhuysen established their farm, Zandfontein, here whilst a German immigrant, one Wilhelmi, purchased another farm called Driefontein in 1870. These two farms plus another, Rietfontein, comprised what would become Sandton.
South Africa’s Financial Centre, Our Home
Today, Sandton is South Africa’s foremost financial and business centre, also home to the JSE Securities Exchange or the Stock Exchange, which was formerly located in downtown Johannesburg. Numerous large corporate headquarters have also moved to our lively, vibrant business and commercial suburb.
It follows logically that this premier business area with its world-class infrastructure and superior facilities would be the best possible location in which to establish our Krugerrand coin, gold bar, gold minted and silver minted bar dealing operation. It is thus where we are able to offer local and international clients incomparable, professional service in first-rate surroundings.
Confidentiality and Ethics
Our valued clients are assured of utmost confidentiality throughout our mutual dealings, since our reputation has been built along strictly ethical lines. The “Know Your Customer” policy to which we conform is in place, in order to enable our company to avoid unethical suppliers whose dealings contravene the policy, with regard to money laundering and/or other criminal enterprises and activities.
Role of Rand Refinery
We work closely with the Rand Refinery, the world’s biggest on-site precious metal smelting and refining company, which was established in 1920 to refine all South African gold, still its major activity to this day. It is estimated that the amount of gold refined here represents approximately 30% of all gold mined globally since ancient times, a truly remarkable feat.
The Rand Refinery supplies blanks to the South African Mint, the only organisation which is allowed to mint and produce Krugerrands. The completed coins are offered to initial, principal distributors by the Rand Refinery, the sole appointed Krugerrand bullion supplier.
All forms of gold passing through the Refinery’s processes are guaranteed to be Responsible Gold, not obtained from or through high risk sources or conflict-affected areas or practices. Their code of ethics is as strictly adhered to as is ours, ensuring that clients are able to buy and sell Krugerrands and other legal bullion products with absolute peace of mind and confidence.
Invest and Collect
Right now is as good a time as any to buy Krugerrands and Sandton City is not only a retail shopper’s paradise; it is our home and the premier place to start your collection and increase your investment portfolio.
